Some are even stuck at 1440x900 (but as we saw earlier, it doesn't matter much in the current situation, as the solid 1440x900 is more precise than the downscaled/upscaled 2880x1800 mode). So far, most (maybe all…) games aren't really accessing the 2880x1800 of the MacBook Pro retina. But of course, this game isn't a low resolution content, so there's definitely a bug in the way the engine handle OS X's HiDPI mode. That's what happens with low resolution content (for example the current Steam browser). What it does instead, it's rendering 2880x1800 pixels into a virtual 1440x900 space, and then this gets upscaled to the 2880x1800 actual screen. But this setting isn't really using the 2880x1800 resolution of the Mac. The Displays preference pane acts the same way with your Mac’s built-in Retina display, too. Running the game on the standard resolution of the Mac (1440x900 equivalent) allows us to run the game up to 2880x1800. Low Resolution Mode is Available on Built-In Displays, Too. And in this mode, the game runs in the real 2880x1800. But to get that, I had to force my Mac to display the real 2880x1800 resolution (making my UI very tiny, unusable on a daily basis), I've used a free utility called 'Display Menu', available on the Mac App Store to access this mode. Then, what about the first ? Well, if you look at it, it's perfect in every way. Every edge suffers from upscaling, it's not sharp at all, it's less sharp than in 1440x900.

The third is what we get when we set, still with the original configuration of the Mac, a 2880x1800 resolution in the game.Edges are sharp as the content isn't scaled, but the diagonal on the chest shows that trixel content has aliasing, which is normal, every pixel of the game covers four actual pixels of the screen. The second is what we get on the standard configuration of the Mac (1440x900 equivalent), and with 1440x900 set in the game.

I've been running tests on the current Fez version and OS X 10.10.1, on a 15' MacBook Pro retina, with a GeForce GT 750M (auto-switch deactivated). There's a problem in the way Fez currently handles OS X HiDPI mode.
